Assisting
women to conceive is Teresa’s passion and the main focus of her practice.
What
could be more rewarding than receiving the good news that another patient has
conceived with the help of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, with and without
In-vitro-Fertilization (IVF) procedures?
At Kwan Yin Holistic Center, we
feel that motherhood is the most sacred of vocations and we are committed to help
every woman reach the goal of conception!
Below
are a few frequently asked questions. Please contact Teresa directly with your
own individual questions.
Q: Why should I come to you for my fertility needs?
A:
Over the years, Kwan Yin Holistic Center has helped many women challenged by fertility
issues to conceive and give birth. We realize the path to conception may be complex
and we address fertility on many levels including the physical, emotional and
spiritual. As such, we have designed our unique Holistic Assisted Reproductive
Therapy (HART) Program to allow our patients the benefit of several holistic healing
options bundled together at reduced rates! Our innovative list of services include:
Acupuncture, Herbal
Remedies, Moxibustion, Cupping
and Tui Na, cranial electrical stimulation,
aromatherapy, fertility relaxation tapes, Reiki,
fertility stone healings, Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) and Psychic
Readings. During your initial consultation, your provider will be able to
help determine which therapies will work best to move you down your sacred path
to conception and birth!
Q:
What should I expect at my first session?
A:
As most of Teresa’s patients are receiving acupuncture for the first time, Teresa
walks you through the process step by step. Rest assured your comfort and successful
treatment results are paramount to Teresa. To speed up your first appointment,
please print out and complete the Fertility
History and Fertility Worksheet
forms and bring to your first appointment. The first session will last 1.5 to
2 hours. To assist in the comprehensive evaluation of your history, please bring
any lab results, lists of supplements, medications you are currently taking and
basal temperature charts, if applicable. Next, you’ll receive your first acupuncture
treatment and if desired, you’ll be prescribed a specialized herbal formula.
Q:
How many treatments will I need?
A:
Treatment plans vary according to individual patterns. Sometimes as few as 1 treatment
a week for 8 weeks, however depending on the diagnosis more likely 3 to 6 months
of treatment and as long as 1 year at 1 - 2 sessions a week. Acupuncture makes
very gentle shifts in the body's endocrine, blood, Qi and immune system, so there
is an accumulation effect. Sometimes the desired effect can take up to 1 year.
So with this in mind we begin to work on the journey, preparing the fertile garden
for implantation. In cases involving IVF, treatments 2 times a week, at least
1 month prior are recommended, if possible. If not, at least a couple sessions,
so that you can experience the relaxation and sensations (Qi/energy) of acupuncture
treatment, prior to IVF procedure.
Q:
Are acupuncture treatments recommended during the first trimester?
A:
Yes! Acupuncture can help with nausea, allergies or depression due to hormonal
changes. Every woman wants a smiling, happy newborn and we recommend the “Happy
Baby” Treatment at the end of the first and second trimester. A golden needle
is used to stimulate this very special point!
Q:
Will my acupuncturist accompany me during the IVF procedure?
A:
Yes. More information provided at initial consultation.
Q:
Will my insurance cover costs?
A:
Many insurance companies will pay for acupuncture, however many companies will
not pay for fertility treatments. In advance of your appointment, please fax your
insurance card to our office at 619-281-4322. We will contact your insurance company
to determine your acupuncture fertility benefits.
Q:
What Infertility western diagnoses have you worked with?
A:
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are recommended for many western diagnoses in
women, such as unexplained fertiltiy, recurrent miscarriages, reduced ovarian
reserve and sub-optimal egg quality. In addition, hormonal imbalances, including
those effecting the thyroid, pituitary and hypothalamus; issues including luteal
phase defect, menstrual irregularities and complications, fibroids, cysts, endometrial
abnormalities. Also included are fallopian tube obstructions, abdominal adhesions,
pelvic inflammatory disease, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Diagnoses for women
post-conception include: morning sickness, hypertension during pregnancy, breech
presentations, prolonged or difficult labor, postpartum depression, postpartum
fatigue, postpartum urinary retention, insufficient lactation, and mastitis. For
men, these diagnoses include: low sperm count and poor morphology, and low libido.
Q:
My western fertility doctor said that I cannot get pregnant naturally because
I am over 40. Is it possible to raise my fertility quotient and become pregnant
naturally with Eastern Medicine?
A: Yes, absolutely
possible! In Chinese medicine one of the goals of fertility enhancement is to
balance, energize and activate the energy pathways that make up the Penetrating,
Conception, and Governing Meridians. These Meridian systems have strong correlations
with our body's psycho-neuro-endocrine regions. Using acupuncture and herbal remedies
we can invigorate and harmonize the hormonal systems in order to regulate menstruation
and ovulation cycles. The first half of your phase is considered to be Yin and
correlates with estrogen, whereas the second phase is considered to be Yang and
correlates with Progesterone. We strongly suggest charting morning basal temperatures
to better understand your particular hormonal cycle. Any irregularities in your
chart can be modified with our Holistic Assisted Reproductive Therapies (HART)
Program to enhance and increase your fertility possibilities!
